When the Worcester Brown Stockings folded in 1882, it allowed Alfred J. Reach to buy a team and move them into Recreation Park in Philadelphia. The Park recieved about $2,000 worth of repairs before the 1884 season for new benches and bat racks in the dugouts, carpet in the isles, some flags, and a new coat of paint. The one complaint that Reach had was the loss of balls batted into the Corinthean reservoir.
